Removing impressment[edit]

I've removed impressment from the box, per discussion at that article. The problem is that impressment was a huge issue that affected Britain over several centuries, while the War of 1812 was not much more than a skirmish — a few frigates and regiments playing in a distant sideshow to the Napoleonic Wars — as far as the British were concerned. Putting this box at the top of the impressment page makes it look like the War of 1812 is the main reason impressment is notable.

Fortunately, the box also includes the Chesapeake-Leopard Affair, which is a specific historical event that is at least somewhat related to impressment (though it was mainly about the recovery of deserters).

I don't object to putting impressment back in, as long as we don't have to put this box back on the impressment page. David (talk) 02:58, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
