En taxonomie , Methanothermobacter est un genre des Methanobacteriaceae . Les espèces de ce genre sont thermophiles et poussent mieux à des températures comprises entre 55 °C et 65 °C. Ils utilisent le dioxyde de carbone et l' hydrogène comme substrats pour produire du méthane pour l'énergie.
