Wikipedia:WikiProject Numismatics/Cryptocurrency task force[edit]

So I just did a overhaul to the main project page of Wikipedia:WikiProject Cryptocurrency like adding a orange-like color format to the page and made a userbox and a barnstar, but I'm now finding out there is a task force also for Cryptocurrency via Wikipedia:WikiProject Numismatics/Cryptocurrency task force. Was WikiProject Cryptocurrency approved through here instead of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals? Or did anyone here not know about WikiProject Cryptocurrency? Jerm (talk) 20:28, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think we're very shorthanded and probably these things go unnoticed.--Wehwalt (talk) 23:03, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, and a lot of editors are becoming less active too. I had marked like three WikiProjects this year as inactive and others as semi. I actually just marked WikiProject Cryptocurrency to semi because there are only two members who are still active editors. Jerm (talk) 23:37, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Cryptocurrency is the "active" one. This task force is pretty much inactive so I marked it as Category:Inactive task forces. Coin (talk) 22:08, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I added the assessment table of the task force to the page of the wikiproject, but I'm not sure if the wikiproject has the same amount of articles assessed according to the task force assessment table. Jerm (talk) 03:58, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I noticed that 200 euro note (a Good Article) has an empty subsection (this one). This seems like something that can be easily fixed by someone with the right expertise, which is why I'm bringing it to your attention. Thanks! Lennart97 (talk) 15:17, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I need someone to copyedit this article for me. It took a few days but I feel enough information has been poured into the article to bump it up to a "B" rating. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 16:39, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good article reassessment[edit]

Please see Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Silver center cent/1 ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:50, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some bot keeps trashing the talk page of Talk:Coins_of_the_United_States_dollar can someone look into it? There is a new coin/bullion Morgan/Peace dollar coming out this year, and it may need to be added, but the bot keeps deleting the section to talk about how to add it to the page. shadzar-talk 12:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

FAR for Order of St Patrick[edit]

I have nominated Order of St Patrick for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Z1720 (talk) 21:22, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of coin colour templates[edit]

Hello numisticians, I thought I'd drop this thought I had here for some initial feedback, before I go on and propose something more formal, as I know this is a passionately watched category of articles. The three templates used to add colour to tables of coinage (Template:Coin-copper-color, Template:Coin-yellow-color, and Template:Coin-silver-color) are all applied as per the numistics MOS, with entire rows being coloured (example taken from MOS):

Prewar series - Regular issues (link to official page about this series if exists)
Image Value Technical parameters Description Date of
Obverse Reverse Diameter Thickness Mass Composition Edge Obverse Reverse first minting issue withdrawal
1 f 17.0 mm 1.0 mm 1.66 g Bronze
95% copper
4% tin
1% zinc
Smooth "MAGYAR KIRÁLYSÁG", Holy Crown of Hungary, year of minting Indication of value, mintmark 1926 27 December 1926 31 December 1945

Couldn't we make it so that only the cells in the 'composition' column get the colour instead? This has two benefits, as I see it:

  • The reader may be confused about why a row is seemingly arbitrarily coloured, but if it's just one cell, the contents of that single cell should make it very clear what the colour refers to
  • I suspect minimising the use of coloured backgrounds will improve accessibility

Here's what it could look like:

Prewar series - Regular issues (link to official page about this series if exists)
Image Value Technical parameters Description Date of
Obverse Reverse Diameter Thickness Mass Composition Edge Obverse Reverse first minting issue withdrawal
1 f 17.0 mm 1.0 mm 1.66 g Bronze
95% copper
4% tin
1% zinc
Smooth "MAGYAR KIRÁLYSÁG", Holy Crown of Hungary, year of minting Indication of value, mintmark 1926 27 December 1926 31 December 1945

I've made the above update 'manually', but I'd imagine the templates can be updated if there's consensus that this is a good idea. Any thoughts? EditorInTheRye (talk) 09:24, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EditorInTheRye You make some valid points, but one problem I see with your proposal is that it would be impossible to color rows for bi-metallic coins, such as the Canadian $2 coin. - ZLEA T\C 09:30, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ZLEA That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that, actually. It's doable, but I'll be the first to admit that editing this table (taken from the article you linked) was rather painful (but then again others may be more at ease with wikitable markup than I am)...

EditorInTheRye Well, you addressed my only concern. I support this idea. - ZLEA T\C 19:37, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Minimum window width in WikiProject Numismatics[edit]

Why do the "yellow/orange frames" in WikiProject Numismatics force a minimum screen window width of nearly 2.000 px (or permanent sideways scrolling) instead of gracefully adapting to the actual windows width? This is contrary to proven WP style elsewhere and counterproductive both on mobile devices (though not my personal interest) as well as multi-window workmode even on 4K screens (myday-to-day practice). I would be grateful for an explanation, if there is a good one, or else a remedy. Thanks --HReuter (talk) 22:04, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

panama balboa coin question[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panamanian_balboa This page discusses the balboa coins, and the picture shows the half balboa coin being produced from 1973 on, but the text below the picture says that is was first produced in 1930, then changed in 1966 and again in 1973. I am assuming the text is correct, I recently found a 1966 half balboa in pocket change. Expat somewhere (talk) 16:16, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Expat somewhere It looks like the table is describing the coin in its current dimensions/composition, which was introduced in 1973. The section, as well as the article as a whole, is largely unsourced. - ZLEA T\C 16:43, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional money?[edit]

Y'all include money for which absolutely no example exists because it is a confabulation? Book of Mormon monetary system is under this WikiProject. Is that appropriate? jps (talk) 22:48, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that falls under numismatics. Fantasy money might as its exonumia. Like the brass-colored "bitcoins" that you see out there that have no validity. But the main article on bitcoin probably isn't numismatics. Wehwalt (talk) 22:57, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I removed the listing. jps (talk) 23:44, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've read the various discussions at some length now, including the AfD, and I think the category removal is proper, because the focus of the article is on the monetary system. If the LDS folk were in the habit of striking "coins" consistent with that system and this article was principally on them, that might be different. But this isn't numismatics because there's nothing to collect, and if there is, it isn't part of this article. In fact, I don't see that it is contended that the denominations set forth in the article were represented by coins, and it seems they are supposed to be weights of precious metal.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:39, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fictional money redirects to Fictional currency. I'll add Book of Mormon monetary system there as a see also :) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:44, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone help rescue this? It seems cool, but the current exceuction is, well... Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:42, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page background[edit]

Does anyone have any objections to removing the background styling on this talk page? It's fine for the project page, but I feel it adds unnecessary complications on this page. The "New section" feature automatically adds new discussion topics at the end of the page after the style code. - ZLEA T\C 04:21, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense to remove as it doesn't mesh with the discussion features. CMD (talk) 04:44, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TheCurrencyGuy Sock Edits[edit]

Recently I have noticed a string of similar edits on currency, bank, treasury, and other related articles. An SPI reveals that they sock edits from the TheCurrencyGuy.

If there are any willing editors, could you please look through and evaluate the edits of Jahor12345 and from 2A00:23C8:4DA4:5F01:0:0:0:0/6? A lot of it is just unsourced additions (not all are bad).

British currency in the Middle East seems to have been left in particularly rough shape.

Thank you in advance! Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 22:50, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note: WikiProject British Empire has been notified of this discussion. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 22:56, 12 April 2024 (UTC) [reply]
I have reverted all the edits by TCG socks to British currency in the Middle East, per WP:BMB. Maybe one day he will get the hint and just go away. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 00:02, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The IP server that was blocked at the same time as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jahor12345 is not connected. Both were editing simultaneously on different articles during the morning of 3rd April 2024. The IP server began with detailed edits about the Egyptian pound, and then around noon, switched over to British currency in the Middle East. Meanwhile, editor Jahor12345 was editing across a wide range of currency topics, mainly reformatting. The editing styles are completely different. The IP server carried out edits at 1204hrs and 1206hrs, while Jahor12345 carried out an edit in the middle of that two minute period at 1205hrs. They couldn't possibly be the same person. 81.134.217.27 (talk) 13:39, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather hear that from a checkuser. Wehwalt (talk) 14:01, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
